Meet Fiona

Fiona is a  gentle and shy standard donkey. She was originally rescued by All Seated in a Barn and found temporary foster sanctuary with Return to Freedom after being saved from a kill pen in Bowie, Texas. 

Initially,

Fiona arrived at Return to Freedom showing signs of lamness: radiographs revealed she had severely foundered, with rotation in both front hooves, requiring urgent and specialized care. Initially, she hadn't bonded with the other donkeys in her rescue group, which led the RTF team to introduce her to a lonely miniature donkey named Wookie. The two outcasts connected instantly, forming a deep friendship. Recognizing the critical need for Fiona's specialized hoof care, and the deep connection she shared with Wookie, Rancho Burro Donkey Sanctuary made arrangements to bring them, along with pregnant Jenny, to our sanctuary early. Now safely at Rancho Burro, Fiona is receiving the dedicated attention her hooves require, and she continues to lean on Wookie, who has bravely stepped into the role of her protector.
