Rest in Sweet peace, Bobo

Rescued with Rosie in April 2019

    Remembering Our Gentle Giant, Bobo

It is with profound sadness and the heaviest of hearts that we share the passing of our beloved mammoth donkey, Bobo, earlier this month in August 2025.

At 20 years old, Bobo was a true gentle giant. He and his dear friend Rosie joined our sanctuary family after their owner tragically passed away, leaving them and seven other donkeys to fend for themselves. When he arrived, Bobo bore the deep scars of that neglect, suffering from significant skin and hoof issues. With the help of our friends at Eponamind and their innovative AI technology, we fitted him with custom shoes and provided constant care to make him comfortable.

In the time he was with us, he healed in spirit, if not completely in body. We heard whispers he was once a Rose Parade star, and he certainly had the charisma for it. He quickly became our official sanctuary greeter, always the first to approach visitors, welcoming everyone with his incredibly kind and trusting spirit.

Ultimately, despite all the love and specialized care we could give, the severe and irreversible hoof damage from his past life of neglect was too much for his gentle body to overcome.

While our time with him was far too short, we are so grateful that he knew love, safety, and friendship in his final chapter. We will forever miss his warm greetings.

Rest easy, sweet Bobo. You were so loved.
