Meet Ruby - Rescued in November 2017

Meet Ruby, the extraordinary mule who holds a special place at RBDS. Unlike the other members of the herd, Ruby is not entirely a horse nor an average donkey. She is a magnificent creature, representing the harmonious blend of both species. Rescued from a bleak fate in a Texas holding pen, her destiny was to be shipped off to a rendering plant in Mexico. Fortunately, fate intervened just in time for this beautiful red-hued mule.
Ruby, boasting a powerful, draft animal build, is estimated to be around 28 years old. Her stunning appearance is completed by a sleek blond mane, further enhancing her uniqueness in the herd. As the years have passed, her teeth have worn down, presenting difficulty in chewing hay effectively. Consequently, Ruby's diet mainly consists of specially prepared hay cubes, ensuring she receives the necessary nourishment she requires.
Although standing out from the rest, Ruby's distinctive nature isn't an issue within the RBDS herd. In fact, it only serves to augment her charm and her individuality is embraced by all. Ruby, the one and only mule, embodies strength, grace, and resilience, demonstrating the beauty of being different.
