At Rancho Burro, we strive to bring people together and create a sense of belonging and connection within our community. As a nonprofit organization, we are committed to making a positive impact by rescuing, rehabilitating, and providing a permanent sanctuary for abused, abandoned, and neglected donkeys and mules.
At our 46-acre home, we provide specialized lifetime care in a state-of-the-art environment, ensuring every resident lives a life of dignity and peace. Through workshops, events, tours, and education, we share the gentle nature and healing power of our donkeys with you.

Our donkeys have found their forever home here and are NOT AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION. We are happy to provide references to adoption centers and
offer guidance on the lifelong commitment of donkey ownership.
Where do your rescued donkeys and mules come from?
Our rescued donkeys and mules come from a variety of situations where they are in
critical need of help.
- Owner Surrenders
- Rescues that have been abandoned, neglected or abused
- Donkeys and mules in danger of going to slaughter
- Direct rescues from livestock auctions
Once in our care, every donkey enters a comprehensive rehabilitation program. Our mission is to heal them physically and emotionally, preparing them to live out their lives peacefully
in our sanctuary.
