❤Meet Elmer - Rescued in October 2024

Meet Elmer, our newest resident! 

This sweet ~10-year-old BLM donkey recently arrived at Rancho Burro after a heartbreaking turn of events.  In just six short weeks, he went from a herd of three to being completely alone when his owner's horse passed away and her niece took her own horse to college.

Though his owner tried to integrate him with smaller animals, it just wasn't the right fit. 

Donkeys thrive in the company of other donkeys, and Elmer was understandably feeling lonely.  

His owner, recognizing his need for companionship, reached out to us. While we typically focus on rescuing abused, abandoned, and neglected donkeys with special needs, we felt a special connection with Elmer's story.  Having recently said goodbye to Henry, Chile, and Teddy, we had the space and knew in our hearts that Elmer needed a new home and a forever family.

Though Elmer was well cared for physically, our vets will be giving him a thorough check-up to establish a baseline for his health.
