Meet PJ
The Cautious and Sweet Survivor
Introduction
PJ is a sweet, tall standard donkey whose journey to the sanctuary was a true team effort of rescue and resilience. She was one of fifteen burros originally saved by All Seated in a Barn directly from a kill pen auction in Bowie, Texas.
After spending a month in quarantine and a temporary foster period at Return to Freedom, PJ made the final leg of her journey to Rancho Burro Donkey Sanctuary.
She arrived as part of a deeply bonded trio, closely sticking by her shy friend Fiona and their tiny, brave protector, Wookie.
The "Pregnancy" Mix-Up
When PJ first arrived, her rescue paperwork urgently stated she was several months pregnant due to a rather round tummy. As it turned out, she wasn’t pregnant at all—she was simply carrying some extra weight!
Though she was initially very nervous and overly cautious about her new surroundings, this big, gentle girl quickly realized she was finally safe. She has settled down beautifully, shedding her anxiety to become an incredibly stable, easygoing presence in the barnyard who never gives the staff an ounce of trouble.
Barnyard Bonds
Now fully settled into her forever home, PJ’s sweet nature shines through as she learns to trust her human caregivers. While she still occasionally looks to Wookie for reassurance when she feels unsure, she has also formed her own special, quiet friendships within the wider herd.
Today, this beautiful, tall girl can often be found enjoying peaceful, mutual grooming sessions under the sun with her good friend, Elmer.
